Features.
Smart model routing, custom actions, per-site behavior. All local-first, keyboard-driven, and built around the websites you already use.
Intelligence Center
Connect your own API keys to every major cloud provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Groq, Mistral, xAI, Together, OpenRouter), or run locally with Ollama.
Smart routing
Pick a default model in the extension. ClipAction routes every action there, with per-action overrides when you want them.
-
Gemini Nano by default. Used whenever you haven't picked another provider. -
Or bring your own. Use Ollama or any cloud provider with an API key. -
Per-action overrides. Use Nano for grammar fixes, Claude for long rewrites, all from one palette.
API keys live in your browser's encrypted storage. ClipAction never transmits keys to our servers.
Use restricted keys with per-provider usage limits whenever possible.
Supported providers
Configure these inside the extension.
Action Builder
Create reusable AI text transformations. Chain prompts, assign shortcuts, and define your own workflow. Every action runs against the model you choose.
How to build one
-
1
Name it
Give the action a short label that's easy to find in the palette, like "Professional email" or "Sum in 3 bullets".
-
2
Write the prompt
Tell the model exactly what to do. Use
{{selection}}where the highlighted text should go, and add other variables when you want the action to ask you for input. -
3
Pick a shortcut and model
Bind the action to a number key (
Ctrl+Shift+1through9) or any custom combo, and choose which provider runs it. -
4
Use it anywhere
Select text on any page, hit your shortcut, and the result replaces the selection.
Ctrl+Zto revert if it's not what you wanted.
Example prompt
# Professional email rewrite Rewrite the following text in a polished, professional tone. Keep the original meaning and length. Don't add greetings or sign-offs. Text: "{{selection}}"
